Movie Review: Blockers
Rating: 8/10
Oh, I got a great giggle out of this movie. The cast was hilarious, John Cena in particular. Who knew he could act… and actually have talent? His role was iconic since he wasn’t the typical “macho” guy that he is in real life. Well, he does show his strength (and muscular ass hehe) throughout the movie, but he is presented as a total nerdy, sporty dad. The whole cast was so diverse and it was something I was not expecting. Cena’s wife in the movie was the breadwinner, stood her ground on a lot of controversial topics and was not white, which me and my sister loved. I could go on about the diversity, but long story short there are many different ethnicities and sexual preferences highlighted in the film.
Now on to what the movie is really focused on; A bunch of high schoolers hoping to lose their virginities on prom night. Even though I found it all hilarious, I did not find it accurate. But we must keep in mind that I had no interest in going to prom and I had like two friends. I did not see prom night as exciting as these teens. They made it seem like it was going to be the greatest night of their lives! Am I a monster for not thinking this way? There is also heavy drug usage throughout the movie. But again, me and my two friends sat in the car everyday during lunch while listening to Beyonce, so I have no clue what the drug situation was like at my high school. That was me explaining how antisocial I was, so I don’t know what all the “cool kids” were doing. Lol I am really making myself sound lame, but at least I am aware of it.With that being said, the way these teens’ night unfold was hella funny and I’d watch again. I probably wouldn’t recommend for helicopter parents unless they want to be mortified as to what their teens are up to.
